Pros and cons of Tropical Fish Encyclopedia app for iPhone and iPad

Tropical Fish Encyclopedia app good for

to search and find tropical fishes. Every article is underlined with pics. 4 stars for missing informations and search functions.
Very diverse, detailed selection of most common aquarium species! Very handy for minor researching.
This app is really good for the price and how there isnt anything else like it. I just wish the search was more accurate (it cannot search second word) but for 99cents cant go wrong. (please put in dannios :)

Some bad moments

Search function is not working. Only search from beginning of the name. If you try to search for loach ie will display only fish with name beginning with loach like Loach Goby but not Arrow Loach. Missing common fish ... I couldnt find Redtailed shark, Yoyo loach, etc) Could improve description and more pictures. Over all disappointed - not recommended app.
Extremely incomplete for an app. calling itself an encyclopedia.
I took a quick look at your App and noticed that despite the seemingly large amount of interesting and useful information youve packed to the gills (sorry) in your App, theres one problem. You put the pictures so that in order to look at them, the user must scroll down. This might not be a problem for the scientists or serious aquarists who can identify fish by their scientific name but for me, a rank hobbyist who can only identify their fish by looking at them, this scrolling is mighty inconvenient. Rather than just quickly touching the names of the fish on the left and looking at the picture, I must touch THEN scroll for each and every fish. Since there are hundreds of fish this quickly becomes tiresome (also, youve already got the name on the left; why show it again?) Even better would be a little thumbnail (pinky nail?) of the fish on the listing but there might be some technical reason why you cant do that. Anyway, fix this problem and Ill upgrade the rating to 5 stars!
Its not a bad app just basic and you need to put more species in here too, I dont see any of the Severus or a black ghost knife, you have many species in here that the average buyer will never see in their LFS so why not put the ones you will see first? Hope to see this prove in updates, and like the other guy said when you do Ill come back and improve my rating.
I agree with previous reviews - photos should be at the top of the page, not the bottom. Some very common aquarium fish are omitted (guppy, platy swordtail) just to name a few. A little smaller font would allow all info on one page.
As has been stated, the list is hardly exhaustive, many common and not so common fish arent in here, which means if you want something to look up fish as you see them in the store, this isnt it. The search function is only by common name, and only the one they selected, so if you see a fish that is included here, but it is labeled in the store by a different common name, or by its scientific name youre out of luck. As has been pointed out in other reviews, the pictures are at the bottom of each entry, so if youre looking to ID a fish by sight you have to scroll down on every entry. Even if youre that patient, many of the pictures are of scientifically preserved specimens, and so are essentially useless. The information provided in all entries is bare bones and dry. So, if you have Internet access, in all cases youll be better off googling a fish for a decent profile than you would be using this app. If you dont have access to the internet, which is where I thought this app would be useful, youll be lucky to find what youre looking for and even then what you find may not be helpful. Youll be better off waiting until you can get online or consulting a reputable guide book.
